Karuppampatti is an Indian Tamil-language film directed by newcomer Tha. Prabhu Raja Cholan, a former associate of S. Shankar. It stars Ajmal, alongside Aparnaa Bajpai and Archana in lead roles.[1] The film was released in 22 March 2013.

In February 2010, Tha. Prabhu Raja Cholan, a former associate of director Shankar, announced that he would make a film titled Karuppampatti, which would be produced by Sundar, have cinematography by P. G. Muthaiah and music by D. Imaan.[2] However before production, the team was changed and it was announced that Santhosh Sriram[3] would be the cinematographer and Kannan of Tamil Padam fame would be the music composer. The producer of the film approached Hindi actress Sonam Kapoor to play the lead role in the film, but were unsuccessful in convincing her to debut in Tamil films with this venture.[4] Hence Aparnaa Bajpai, who had made her debut in Sasikumar's Easan, was signed on to play the leading female role in the film.[5] The shooting of the film began in May 2010 and posters featuring Ajmal with the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, walking in snow, and studying in a university classroom abroad were released. It was also reported that Ajmal plays a dual role as father and son and that the film will be set in two backdrops that of a village and the city, with the director remarking the film would show a person's journey through life from Karuppampatti village near Trichy to Paris, France.[6][7] A song titled "Oh Indira" was shot with Ajmal and Archana in May 2010 at AVM Studios, Chennai with a 1970s bar set out up.[8]
The team shot a schedule in Pazhani in December 2010 and then returned in August 2011, when Ajmal refused to engage in a scene where there is a kiss sequence with Aparnaa Bajpai and eventually ended up kissing her on the cheek instead.[9] The final portions of the film were canned in Paris, France and in Valsassina and Lecco, Italy in February 2012 where scenes featuring Ajmal and Italian model Alice Tantardini were canned.[10][11] In April 2012, it was announced that Bappi Lahiri would sing a song for the film titled "Naughty Raja Raja" and the team audaciously attempted to bring in international pop star Katy Perry to feature in the music video.[12][13][14] To make most of use of Ajmal's popularity in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film industries, the director confirmed that the film would be dubbed and released in the latter two languages.[15] Ajmal also completed his dubbing for the film in French after taking lessons in the language to ensure his voice remains constant in the film.

Performances

Irfan is energetic in the film. He carried off the film on his shoulders right from the word go and his act takes him to another level. His action sequences are brilliantly captured.

Arundati is simple yet beautiful and her screentime with Irfan had worked well.

Technical Analysis

Britto’s soundtrack En Uyir Thozhan's Raasathi...has lost its pace in the movie. While dialogues are very impressive with good punch liners with pleasing visuals. Screenplay is predictable, editing isn’t smooth, and Action choreography is brilliant. Production values are lavish. Director Brahma gets the entire credits for plotting such simple story with amazing action sequence and a cute love story.

Nanban (Friend) is a 2012 Tamil comedy-drama film directed by Shankar.[1] It is a remake of Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots (2009),[2] which itself was adapted from the novel Five Point Someone – What not to do at IIT! by Chetan Bhagat.[3] featuring an ensemble cast that includes Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana D'Cruz, Sathyan and Sathyaraj.[4] The plot of the film illustrates the embankment of two friends on a quest for a lost buddy, who was once an optimistic and successful student. On their journey, they recount their college life and special moments that the three shared up until their lost friend secretly parted ways after convocation. During their quest, the two encounter a rival classmate who once made a long forgotten bet with them, a funeral that goes impossibly out of control, and a wedding they must crash.
The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by Harris Jayaraj and cinematography was handled by Manoj Paramahamsa. The film was produced by Gemini Film Circuit, who had purchased the remake rights of 3 Idiots in early 2010. A lengthy and controversial delay in casting caused commencement of filming to be pushed to a year later. Filming took place for a total of eight months in various locations in Europe and India.[5] The film saw its worldwide release on 12 January 2012 to highly positive reviews and emerged a financial success.[6] Its dubbed version in Telugu, Snehithudu, released on 26 January 2012 in Andhra Pradesh, also received good response at the box office.[7][8][9] Nanban was screened at the Melbourne Indian Film Festival on 12 June 2012
